ScamCam support

Draft — internal testing. This page is a working draft.

Email [email protected] and tell us what happened, which iPhone you use and which version of ScamCam (Settings in the app shows it). Please don't send us screenshots with other people's details unless we ask for them.

For privacy questions and requests, see the Privacy Policy or email [email protected]. To report a security problem, see /security.

How ScamCam works

You pick a screenshot, photo, link or message, or share it to ScamCam from another app. ScamCam sends it to our servers and to the AI services we use, and shows you what looks off and why. It is an automated second opinion: it can be wrong, and it isn't financial, legal or security advice. If money is at stake, call your bank on the number printed on your card.

The examples on the home screen run on your phone. They work offline and send nothing.

Common questions

Is what I send kept?

We delete it from our servers within a day of your last action on it (3 days at most). Your history stays on your devices, and in your own iCloud if it's on. The Privacy Policy has the details, including what the AI services keep on their side.

How do I delete a check, or all of them?

Open the check in your history and tap Delete. That removes it from your devices, your iCloud and our servers. To remove everything, use Delete all history in Settings. Closing a result you've already seen only hides it from the screen; it stays in your history.

How do I turn off "Help improve ScamCam"?

Open Settings → Privacy and switch off Help improve ScamCam. The change also reaches checks that are still on our servers. See Training for what it means.

How do I get my data, or have it deleted?

There are no accounts, so we need to confirm that the data is yours before we act on it. Email [email protected] from the address you want the answer at, and say whether you want a copy or want it deleted. We'll reply with how to confirm it's your phone. We answer within 30 days. See Your rights.

The app says something is off with my device

ScamCam checks that it runs as the genuine app on a real iPhone before it sends anything for a check. When that check doesn't pass, the app says "Looks like something is off with your device. Please try again later." Please do try again later. If it keeps happening, email [email protected] with your iPhone model and iOS version. ScamCam doesn't run on a Mac or on Apple Vision Pro for this reason.

Why did ScamCam ask me to agree again?

It asks again when our Terms or Privacy Policy change in a way that matters, when we start using a new AI service, and after you delete and reinstall the app.

ScamCam isn't in the share sheet

Tap More at the end of the app row in the share sheet and turn on ScamCam. ScamCam takes up to 5 screenshots or photos at a time, one link, or some text. From Safari, it gets the page's address and title, not the page itself.

A check won't start

A check needs the internet. You can pick screenshots offline, but Let's go shows "Offline" until you're back online. Then tap it to start the check.

I think a result is wrong

Results are automated and can be wrong in both directions. Tell us at [email protected] what you checked and what you expected; describe it rather than sending the screenshot. If a result is about your business and you think it is unfair, email us too: we look at every such report.
